A Week in Reverse

Last night, we drove to an outdoor movie theater in Warwick, NY. Despite the frigid temperatures, it was a lot of fun. We were far enough away from Manhattan that you could actually see stars in the sky!

On Saturday, Sarah, Ashley and I went to Self Magazine’s Workout in the Park. It’s an all day event at Ramsey Playfield in Central Park with tons of swag and back-to-back classes with silly names like Stiletto Strength and Million Dollar Knockout. We stuck around the entire time (6 hours of classes -- yikes) for the Masala Bhangra finale. Amazing. And, despite being sore and sunburned, we had a fantastic time.

Friday, Thursday, and Wednesday, I was on a shoot for work. The first two days we worked from Silvercup Studios. It’s a huge production facility on the Long Island City side of the Queensboro Bridge. Friday we were on location in Montclair, NJ. It was a lot of sitting around waiting, constant hunting for a wireless connection, too much craft service, some weird conversations with my creative team and an overall attempt not to mess anything up.

Tuesday was Cinco De Mayo shenanigans with my favorite group of Texans.

Monday was dinner at Peter Lugers. I don’t go on many dates, but when I do they are usually a painfully awkward few hours that conclude with me wishing I had just stayed home to watch Bridezilla reruns instead. There was the guy who wanted to sit on the same side of the booth, the guy who told me he was once in a cult… oh, and that guy who had a pre-date Q-tip injury. So, when he told me he was taking me to a steak house in Brooklyn, I was skeptical. 1. I eat beef approximately 3.7 times a year. 2. I don’t go to Brooklyn on work nights. It’s a personal rule – don’t judge. In an attempt to not be such a stick-in-the-mud, I agreed to go. It’s a good thing I did because I later found out the restaurant has been reviewed by every famous food critic in the country. It’s a total hipster, rakish, and old-school place. My arteries suffered a bit, but I ended up having a great time.

Sunday, Saturday, and Friday were two birthday parties and a going-away party plus a little recovery time.

It’s starting to feel like summer around here. Perhaps more in attitude than in weather -- but, summer nonetheless. I remember last year how noticeably the city changes when it starts to get warm. I can’t wait for the summer festivities to begin. Here’s what I have to look forward to: UT Alumni Chili Cook-off, Greg and Amanda visiting, a long weekend in Texas, Big Apple BBQ, Band of Horses at Carnegie Hall, PS1’s Warm Up, a few days at the Shore, and my second half marathon!!
